Vision
The Trust was created to foster a giving, honouring and caring society. Our aim is to help people in our community who are in need and also to provide meaningful, joyful events that bring our community together.
Mission
The main focus of Acts of Kindness Charitable Trust has been to create and facilitate opportunities for
individuals and organizations to partner with the Trust to run city wide community events. The
aim is to express kindness to people in our community, especially to those that are vulnerable, lonely or
struggling financially. The Trust stepped back from running these events in 2024.
- The Dunedin Light Party, currently on hold, is usually held close to the date of Halloween (31st October). The event provides a safe, family focused, non-Halloween alternative for children. Gold coin donation entry and all activities free of charge. This allows families with little to no disposable income to attend. The event has been held at the Forsyth Barr Stadium and attracts between 3000 – 4000 children and their caregivers. Approximately 300 volunteers participate. The last time this event was held was 2018, and was the sixth time the event was held at the Stadium.
- The Dunedin Community Christmas Dinner is an annual event held at the Dunedin Town Hall on Christmas Day. It’s a high class affair with table service, table linen and excellent entertainment delivered for 500 guests with the support of 180 volunteers. The Dinner has been running in its current form for over a decade and has a history going back much further. But the Dinner isn’t just about entertainment and food – it’s about connection, giving, sharing and community. It’s a team effort and we’d like you to help continue to make this event, for our wonderful City of Dunedin, special and everything that it can be – by attending, volunteering or donating.
From 2024, the Dinner has been hosted by the Dunedin Christmas Charitable Trust. The 2023 Dinner was the last one hosted by us (Acts of Kindness Charitable Trust).
We encourage everyone who would like to attend, or to volunteer at, future Dunedin Community Christmas Dinners to directly contact the Dunedin Christmas Charitable Trust. Please also consider donating funds for the purposes of the Dunedin Community Christmas Dinner directly to the new organisers. More information can be found on their website.
