Dunedin Light Party

Channel 39 Report on 2017 Light Party

The Light Party has been on hold since Covid-19 restrictions impacted New Zealand.

The annual Dunedin Light Party has been held for over 17 years.

So, what’s it all about?
Well, it is an alternative to Halloween, aimed primarily at children from pre-school age to Year 8.
However, it is fun for the whole family! There are games, activities and food, with entry just being a gold coin donation!
Check out the video above!

Here’s a list of the typical activities that might happen there!

  • Face-painting
  • Rainbow Area for the littlies – under 5 yrs old
  • Chocolate Wheel!!
  • Necklace and bracelet-making
  • Other craft ideas
  • Inflatables – e.g. bouncy castle!
  • Pippity Pop! – Balloons!
  • Superhero cape-making
  • Children’s clothing giveaway stall!
  • Vendor stalls with inexpensive food for purchase
  • Live entertainment throughout the evening
  • A free sausage for all attending! (as supplies allow)

You are also welcome to bring your own picnic dinner with you!

Just a Few Rules to keep everyone safe …
With the large number of people attending, and to ensure all children can feel safe, we adhere to the following:

– All children must be accompanied and supervised by a care-giver
– No alcohol is permitted at the Light Party
– Halloween-themed costumes & make-up not allowed

PARKING: Parking is FREE, but fills up pretty quickly, so come early to get your parking space. It’s also helpful to approach from the State Highway side so that you turn LEFT into the carpark instead of trying to cross busy traffic.

The Light Party has its own Facebook page! Check it out for more photos!
